About Me

I have lived in Northwich with my wife Rebecca and worked locally for most of my adult life. My children were born here and are flourishing at our local primary school.

At work, I have a successful career in software, and have worked hard to achieve my current role as Software Development Director of a local company, which provides systems to the social housing sector. I strongly believe that fixing housing is key to solving many other societal problems: the child in an overcrowded house who cannot meet their full educational potential; the family with health issues brought on by damp and mould; the poorly insulated property that costs a fortune to heat and wastes energy. It has been a privilege to contribute to this sector, and I’m looking forward to having more influence as an MP.

I have been a Councillor in Northwich for the last ten years, representing various parts of the town on Northwich Town Council, and latterly Cheshire West and Chester Council.

As a councillor I have worked to support our community in the face of floods, fires, building collapses, and austerity. I spearheaded the development of the Northwich Neighbourhood Plan, have worked for many years across political lines to get the best for Northwich’s regeneration, and am the Leader’s Champion for the One Mid Cheshire Plan, which will draw together our strengths, eliminate barriers to new investment and make Mid Cheshire’s economy stronger, greener, and fairer.

The privilege of representing the place where you live must be earned. I will never take anyone's support for granted and will work hard to demonstrate that voters were right to place their trust in Labour and in me.

My Successes

My proudest achievements across Mid Cheshire.

Northwich Advantage Fund

As part of Northwich Town Council I pioneered a scheme to provide additional funding for the Northwich Primary Schools to allow children from deprived backgrounds to take part in extracurricular activities.

Play Areas

Over the years I have been involved with the design and funding bids for the renovation of seven play areas, Northwich paddling pool, and Northwich skate park.

Leftwich Urban Woodland

Since getting elected to Cheshire West in 2019 I have worked with officers to secure funding from the Mersey Forest to create the Dane Valley Urban Woodland, a 35 hectare tree-planting scheme that will begin later this year.

Improvements at the VIN

Over many years I have campaigning for investment in the Victoria Infirmary. Recently they have started work on a new "green site" in order to provide better healthcare facilities and take the pressure off Leighton Hospital.

Mid Cheshire Rail Link Campaign

I was involved in the campaign for the re-opening of Middlewich station, and convincing CW&C to back it. This led to the Local Enterprise Partnership commissioning a business case into the re-opening. I hope to do more on this in future.

Disabled Access at Northwich Train Station

I have campaigned for disabled access at Northwich station. This led to CW&C funding an Access for All study, which was used by Northern as a basis for a funding application to the DfT. We should hear back on this later in the year.

My Priorities

Northwich, Winsford, and Middlewich have never needed a Labour MP and a Labour Government more. As your MP, I will never stop fighting to see our area reach its full potential, and to make sure that local people can get on in life.

Be ambitious for our area

Grow our local economy, create good jobs, boost training and skills for young people and unlock our waterways’ potential.

Build an NHS fit for the future

Labour built the NHS. I’ll always fight to defend it. We’ll cut the appalling waiting times and reform NHS dentistry.

Make our streets safe again

We will restore neighbourhood policing with 13,000 new neighbourhood police and PCSOs.

Breaking down barriers to opportunity

Every child should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. I’ll make sure your family gets the support they need.

Putting money back in your pocket

We will cut energy bills, taking up to £1,400 off the annual household bill and £53bn off energy bills for businesses by 2030.

Fight for better local bus and rail services

Our Labour Mayors have led the way in improving bus and rail services. I will fight for us to have the same powers here in Cheshire.
